Artist Statement
My love for fly fishing and the outdoors is why I find that fish and their surroundings are so unique in the sense that it is a whole other world. The refraction of light, vibrant colors of nature, and the pure beauty of life is the main concept behind my work. I am inspired by bright colors of nature and pushing the color further so as to enhance the overall beauty and brilliance bringing these images to a whole new level.
The challenges of painting fish are their transparent skin, extreme glossiness, and their brilliant colors. The bright colors represent the natural beauty of nature itself. My work is on a grand scale and is a magnification of this other world giving the viewer an unseen perspective of fish and their surroundings. I feel that larger pieces have the power to catch the viewer's eye and draw them in allowing the viewer to feel the intense grandeur and power the piece has to offer. This enhances the realistic approach taken in my work and complements many of the stylized techniques used to offset my work from others. My paintings and sculptures represent an idealized vision of not only the world, but our sense of beauty and nature.
